If all three substitutes are injured, the injured player will be forced to return to the game and play on in spite of his injuries. When a player is injured, he is replaced by one of three substitutes. The same amount of points for scoring a goal is given for injuring a player from the opposing team. The amount of points that a team receives for scoring a goal starts at 10 but can be increased to 15 or 20 via the use of score multipliers located on the walls of the pitch. Teams have nine players on court rather than five, and targets on the floor and walls can be hit to receive bonus points. Speedball 2 makes several changes over the original Speedball. The game starts in 2105 with the emergence of a new team, Brutal Deluxe. As the organisation gives place to anarchy the game is forced underground, but five years later, in an attempt to regain public interest, Speedball 2 is born. Coins can be traded at the end of each game for different bonuses, such as extra time or several enhancements for all members in the player's team, including a permanent increase to any of their stats. Power-ups include making the ball become electrified (the opposite team cannot pick it up and will be harmed if they try), and make it teleport to the player's team member. The game starts with the player(s) selecting a captain among three available choices, each starting with significantly more points than the other two in one of three stats: stamina, power and skill. Two game modes are supported: knockout (face increasingly tougher teams controlled by the computer in best of three matches) and league.
